Zamia furfuracea is known as the cardboard palm because of its wide, firm leaflets, even though it isn't really a palm. Native to eastern Mexico, this cycad is very adaptable, growing equally well in full sun or shade, moist or dry soils, and variable pH. It is probably the most common cycad after the sago palm (Cycas revoluta).
