Syzygium malaccense, the Malay apple, is a productive tropical fruit tree in the guava family (Myrtaceae). The fruits are pear shaped, about 3 inches in diameter and 4 inches long, red, with a white, juicy pulp. The pulp is sweet, juicy, aromatic and flavorful, especially when tree ripened. The beautiful hot purple sepals carpet the ground during the flowering season.
