Piperaceae (black pepper family)

    The Piperaceae are shrubs, vines, or small trees found throughout subtropical and tropical regions.  There are about 8 genera and 2,000 species, many with medicinal properties.  Black pepper (Piper nigrum) is probably the most well known member of this family.
