Large Heliconias
Large heliconias range in height from around 6 feet to towering giants
20-30 feet tall. They all have upright, long lasting flowers, and are
excellent as specimen plants in the tropical garden or large greenhouse, and
as cut flowers for large arrangements.
We dig, clean and label each rhizome to order, and they are shipped

'Cinnamon
Twist' is a natural hybrid that blooms year round. Grows well in
partial shade to full sun. Plant habit is erect, from 8-10 feet
tall. Bracts are brick red with a dark yellow border, and are arranged
in a spiral pattern on the rachis.

caribaea x bihai 'Caribbean Sunset I'
A vigorous
hybrid that blooms prolifically year round, 'Caribbean Sunset I' is
similar to 'Jacquinii',
but smaller. Grows well in partial shade to full sun. An erect
and tightly clumping plant habit, from 8-10 feet tall. Bracts are
orange-red, with a golden border outlined in green.

Nights' has a beautiful solid red flower. The plant is a vigorous

Delight' has a beautiful orange-red flower, with thin greenish borders on

'Richmond Red'
is a natural hybrid of Heliconia caribaea and Heliconia bihai.
'Richmond Red' is a winter and spring bloomer, with large red bracts and
a yellow lip. About 6-8 feet tall. Can grow in partial shade to full
sun.

collinsiana x bourgeana 'Pedro Ortiz'
Thought to be
a natural hybrid between the pendent Heliconia
collinsiana and the erect Heliconia bourgeana, 'Pedro
Ortiz' begins looking like an erect inflorescence, but then starts to
twist and hang down like a pendent. Bracts are full, and a beautiful
solid pink purple color. Grows well in partial shade to full sun.
An erect plant habit, from 6-8 feet tall. Blooms from December
through May in Puerto Rico.

medium sized heliconia, 5-6 feet tall. Grows well in partial to full
shade. Bracts are hot pink-lavender with a bright yellow rachis.
The true flowers are apple green. Fruits are large and round, green
when immature and an attractive glossy blue color when ripe.

the name says, 'Giant Lobster Claw' is a giant! The plant is erect
and clumping, from 12-15 feet tall. The inflorescence can be over 2

grow in partial shade to full sun.

'Guapa' is a large, dark red form of Heliconia
bihai. The bracts are solid dark red with a green lip and tip.

'Halloween' is a gorgeous form of Heliconia
bihai. A prolific summer bloomer, 'Halloween' makes a great
landscape plant and is good for cut flowers. Bracts are a bright orange
color, shading to pink at the rachis, with a beautiful green lip and tip
edged in yellow. About 6-8 feet tall. Can grow in partial shade to
full sun.

'Nappi' has colorful flowers; a green-bordered
bract followed by a thick yellow band, then changing to bright red at
the base and rachis. The plant is vigorous, erect and clumping, from

bihai 'Peachy Pink'
'Peachy Pink' is one of the most
beautiful erect heliconias. It is a medium sized heliconia, about 6-8
feet tall, and has gorgeous pastel orange bracts fading into a hot pink
rachis. The bract lip has a thick green band with a hint of yellow
border. Grows well in partial shade to full sun. Blooms primarily from
May through August in Puerto Rico.

'Yellow Dancer' is a pure yellow form of
Heliconia bihai. Grows well in shade or partial sun. An erect
plant habit, from 6-8 feet tall. Blooms from December through May.

caribaea 'Flash'
'Flash' is an unusual and beautiful form of
Heliconia caribaea. Bracts are lime green, fading to yellow near
the rachis, with a rosy red blush. The plant is vigorous, erect and

'Purpurea', also known as Heliconia caribaea
'Red', is the red form of Heliconia caribaea. Bracts are bright
red with a thin yellow lip. The plant is vigorous, erect and clumping,
from 8-10 feet tall. Can grow in partial shade to full sun. Blooms
from May through September.

caribaea 'St. Lucia'
This very nice dark red form of Heliconia
caribaea was collected on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia and
named by Paul Yoshioka. The bracts are wide and smooth, and are dark
red, changing to an even darker purple-red toward the tips. Blooms from
December to July. Plant habit is erect, from 8-10 feet tall.

The yellow form of Heliconia caribaea is the
only native Puerto Rican heliconia, growing in mountainous areas,
usually near rivers. Other Caribbean islands have red and green forms.

Plant habit is erect, from 8-10 feet tall. The inflorescence is an
attractive solid yellow color, sometimes developing a red flushing or
spotting, especially as the bracts age.

Heliconia episcopalis 'Red and Orange Spear'
has an unusual arrangement of tight bracts, pinkish red toward the base

Heliconia episcopalis 'Yellow Spear' has an
unusual arrangement of tight bracts of a solid gold yellow color. Grows

'Mexican Gold' has a beautiful
solid golden orange flower. It is a medium sized heliconia, about 5-6

'Orange Gyro' has a beautiful solid
orange spiral inflorescence with golden yellow true flowers. It is a

'She' has a fantastic inflorescence; solid bright
pinkish red with green edged bracts, and covered with velvety white

'Iris' is a beautiful bright red winter and spring
(December through March) blooming heliconia. It is similar to
Heliconia stricta 'Valentine', but the plant and flower are
larger. A vigorous plant and prolific bloomer, 5-6 feet tall. Can grow
in partial shade to full sun. Bracts are pure red, with a thin green
border.

stricta 'Oriole Orange'
Small heliconia, about 3-5 feet tall, with a very
large flower for the plant's size. The plump bracts are a bright orange
red color, suffused with hot pink toward the tips. The border is green,
fading into a pale lemon near the rachis. Grows well in partial to full
shade. Blooms from January to June. Plant habit is open and spreading.

Heliconia velloziana has bright red bracts
with yellow true flowers. About 5-6 feet tall. Grows well in shade or
sun. This heliconia is from southern Brazil and may have some cold
hardiness.

Heliconia wagneriana is a medium
sized erect heliconia, about 6-8 feet tall, and has beautiful pale
yellow bracts with bright pink cheeks and a thin green border. Grows
well in shade to partial shade. Blooms from January through July, with
a peak in April and May, which is why its common name is Easter
heliconia.
