Heliconia stricta 'Dark Desire' (Heliconiaceae) 

    'Dark Desire' is new cultivar which appeared spontaneously at Montoso Gardens, possibly a seedling of Heliconia stricta 'Iris'.  The plant is erect, from 6-8 feet tall.  Bracts are solid red with a green border, thinner and more pointed than 'Iris'.  Leaf petioles are dark purple.  Blooms from December to May.  Can grow in partial shade to full sun.
