Heliconia spathocircinata is a medium sized heliconia, about 6-7 feet tall. It has spiraling, solid bright red bracts with a yellow interior, and a red rachis. Grows well in sun to partial shade. Blooms from May through August in Puerto Rico. Heliconia spathocircinata is thought to be a parent of many hybrid heliconias, such as 'Cinnamon Twist', 'Golden Torch', 'Guyana', 'Tropica', and many others.
