'Distans' is a small heliconia, reaching about 3-4 feet in height. It has spiral red bracts fading into a yellow base, which fades into a green rachis. Grows well in sun to partial shade. Blooms from May through August in Puerto Rico. Will bloom in a pot, and has some cold tolerance. Somewhat invasive in the garden.
