Dichorisandra thyrsiflora (Commelinaceae) 

 

Dichorisandra thyrsiflora, or blue ginger, has beautiful, bright purple blue flowers on a 5-6 foot tall plant.  Grows best in moist soil with partial shade and blooms year round.  Propagated by stem cuttings.
