Brownea macrophylla (Fabaceae)
Brownea, or mountain rose, is a small understory tree native to Central and northern South America, from Costa Rica to Peru. Reaching 12-15 feet in height, it grows well in sun to partial shade, and prefers moist, acid soil. Gorgeous bright orange blooms emerge directly on the branches and trunk from May through August in Puerto Rico.
