Red ginger has beautiful glossy green leaves and inflorescences with solid red bracts that are commonly used as cut flowers. The true flowers are small and white. The plant is erect, from 6-8 feet tall. All parts of the plant have a strong gingery fragrance. Attractive in the garden and grows well in a pot. Propagated by division and plantlets that form on the inflorescence. Usually does not set seeds.
