The yellow form of Heliconia caribaea is the only native Puerto Rican heliconia, growing in mountainous areas, usually near rivers. Other Caribbean islands have red and green forms. Grows well in partial shade to full sun. Blooms from December to July. Plant habit is erect, from 8-10 feet tall. The inflorescence is an attractive solid yellow color, sometimes developing a red flushing or spotting, especially as the bracts age.
